Pittsfield Township is named for William Pitt [1708-1778] a British Parliamentarian who supported the America's French and Indian War. The area began to see white settlers in the early 1800s. These pioneers included many immigrants from Pennsylvania and New York. [www.pittsfieldtwp.org, accessed July, 2013]
