Neighborhoods
Founded in 1734, the name of Richland, referring to the area, appears in use as early as 1703, and was named for the rich and fertile fields that were cultivated by Indians prior to European settlement (primarily English and German). Richland is the only municipality in Bucks County that was laid-out orthogonally (north to south) and has the most symmetrical outline. Remnants of four historically significant villages are found near the northern and southern boundaries: California, Paletown, Rich Hill, and Shelly.
