Phone: 570‑735‑2800. Nanticoke was incorporated as a borough in 1874 and a city in 1926.
Located approximately 5 miles southwest of Wilkes-Barre, the area that is now the City was an Indian village prior to the arrival of white settlers. In the late 1700s settlers established a grist mill, iron forge and saw mill at the rapids along the Susquehanna River. For much of the 19th century the borough existed around a coal-mining economy.
