The Torresdale neighborhood is generally bounded by Grant Avenue, Ashton Road, Route 13, the Delaware River, and Poquessing Creek.

Holy Family University and Nazareth Academy High School are located in the neighborhood.

Originally known as Torrisdale, the neighborhood was named by Charles Macalester, Jr. (an early 19th century immigrant) for his birthplace in Scotland.

The Academy Gardens neighborhood is often considered to be part of, and contained within, the Torresdale neighborhood.
