Beginnings [1]

Incorporated from East Manchester township August 27, 1869, and named for the township, but up to this time it had been known as Liverpool. Peter Eib settled there and the place was known as Eib's Landing. When the town was laid out in 1800 it was called the "Town of Manchester," and lots were sold for government taxes.
