The Mountair Acres Subdivision Historic District [†] in Millcreek, Salt Lake County, Utah, is a residential area just south of Salt Lake City, characterized by a flat 75-acre topography that was originally sloped but altered by the Salt Lake Pressed Brick Company’s excavation. The neighborhood deviates from Salt Lake City’s traditional grid pattern, featuring a unique street layout with Highland Drive as its western boundary, a linear park buffer, and streets like Mountair Drive and Crescent Drive organizing its structure. Development spanned 12 years, with most of the 375 single-family homes built in 1948, primarily one-story structures except for one 1½-story house.

Architecturally, Mountair Acres showcases uniformity with consistent street designs, concrete curbs, sidewalks, grassy front yards, and mature deciduous trees forming a canopy. Homes follow Minimal Traditional and Ranch styles, with 66 Minimal Traditional examples (1940-1952) and 308 Ranch examples (1940-1959), predominantly built with brick (93%). The houses, averaging 600-800 square feet, align with mid-1930s Federal Housing Administration standards, featuring simple designs with minimal detailing or broader, low-profile Ranch forms. Secondary structures, like garages and sheds, total 364, with most being unattached garages.

The district’s cohesive aesthetic stems from its consistent setbacks, landscaping, and architectural styles, despite minor modern updates like xeriscaping or carport additions. Its historical significance and integrity were evaluated for National Register of Historic Places eligibility through surveys in 2023 and 2024, confirming its boundaries and the preservation of its character, with 80-82% of homes contributing to its historic status.
