The City of Port St. Lucie [1] is located in St. Lucie County. The City borders Martin County to the south and unincorporated St. Lucie County land to the north and west. Nearby cities include the City of Fort Pierce and the City of Stuart. The City was incorporated in 1961 under the ownership of the General Development Corporation (GDC).

Port St. Lucie is the spring training home of the New York Mets, a major league baseball team and home of its minor league team, the St. Lucie Mets. The Professional Golf Association has a home at PGA Village and along with their outstanding golf courses has built a state of the art PGA learning center. Indian River State College, Keiser University, Florida Atlantic University and Barry University have facilities located within Port St. Lucie providing excellent higher education opportunities.
The biotech industry is taking root in the City with the relocation of the Torrey Pines Institute for Molecular Studies from its location in Southern California. The City built a 100,000 square foot laboratory and office space and Torrey Pines moved into the new facility in January 2009. Torrey Pines employs 95 scientists and is expected to employ 190 employees at their final build out phase.
